Westgate DesignWorks is a residential design firm dedicated to creating exceptional homes for our clients.

Based in Bellingham, WA, we specialize in bespoke design for new homes and significant renovations throughout the Pacific Northwest. We work closely with homeowners, builders, and consultants to create buildings that feel deeply connected to their surroundings, perform beautifully over time, and support the lives unfolding within them.

OUR WORK

Designing and building a home is one of the most meaningful and complex investments most people will ever undertake. Our role is to guide clients through that process with clarity, creativity, and careful attention to detail—from the earliest exploration of a site through permitting and construction.

Each project begins with careful listening and a close reading of the site. Some clients arrive with a clear vision; others are just beginning to explore possibilities. In either case, our goal is to translate ideas, constraints, and aspirations into a coherent architectural response.

Over the years we have worked on a wide range of residential projects—from modest additions to complex custom homes on challenging sites. Many of our most rewarding projects involve helping clients unlock the highest potential of a property through thoughtful siting, spatial planning, human dynamics, and careful integration with the landscape.

The result is architecture that feels natural to its place and deeply personal to the people who live there.

THOUGHTFUL DESIGN

Good residential design is rarely about dramatic gestures. More often it is the result of many small decisions made with care.

How does morning light enter the kitchen? Where do views open and close as you move through the house? How do rooms connect to outdoor spaces and seasonal patterns of use?

We approach each project as a series of interconnected questions about light, movement, proportion, and material. The goal is not simply to create attractive buildings, but to shape environments that support daily life with quiet clarity and comfort.

When architecture is working well, it often feels effortless. Achieving that sense of ease, however, requires patience, iteration, and close collaboration with clients and builders alike.

advanced visualization

One of the greatest challenges in residential design is helping clients fully understand a space before it is built.

Our studio uses a combination of detailed 3D modeling, immersive virtual reality walkthroughs, and photorealistic rendering to allow clients to experience their future home during the design process.

These tools make it possible to explore proportions, sightlines, daylight, and spatial relationships long before construction begins. They also allow for more informed decision-making and reduce uncertainty as the project moves forward.

The goal is not technology for its own sake, but a clearer shared understanding of the design—so that when construction begins, everyone involved can move forward with confidence.

environmental performance

Homes in the Pacific Northwest must respond thoughtfully to climate, landscape, and long-term durability.

We place strong emphasis on building assemblies, energy performance, and careful detailing to ensure that homes remain comfortable, efficient, and resilient over time. Many of our projects incorporate high-performance wall systems, advanced insulation strategies, and thoughtful approaches to daylighting and solar orientation.

Equally important is designing homes that age gracefully—structures that can be maintained and adapted as families and needs evolve.

Sustainable design is not simply a checklist of technologies, but a long-term commitment to building well.
